Why We Love It...

It’s due time for a re-stock of this newer-to-us, 94-point Champagne discovery that has simply blown our minds! With organic farming, a blend of Champagne’s big three grapes, and now over 50% off, it doesn’t get much better than this!

Champagne Phillipe Dechelle farms their 9 hectares in the gorgeous Vallée de la Marne using organic methods, and all their efforts are proudly displayed via the uber-happy grapes pumping some serious intensity into their cuvées. It’s rich and dreamy like Gatsby, but with a zesty, laser-focused edge that will delight any of our most serious bubbly drinkers out there. The flavors burst out the glass with the essence of white truffles, followed by this crunchy chalk and slate experience, then Fuyu persimmons, toasted almonds, and percolating red fruit notes – cherries, pomegranates, plums, and tart cranberries… absolutely stunning! Three years aging gives this a nice roundness, but Champagne’s unmatched, terroir-driven acidity keeps it dry and tantalizingly fresh.

When Champagne was decimated by phylloxera in the late 1800s, the Dechelle family just so happened to be some of the region’s most respected vine grafters. That kept them supremely busy for the next couple of decades, and they helped to replant much of the surrounding area with new vines – essentially saving Champagne – so, without a doubt, this family has reached legendary hero-status in more ways than one. They only recently decided to try their hand at making wines instead of just growing the grapes for them, and the results have been masterful.

We’re always on the lookout for great new Champagne – especially as the prices around the world have crept up steadily over the past few years – and we were thrilled to have this one come onto our radar! We truly scored with this find thanks to the sheer quality and value, but this tiny, little domaine doesn’t grow all that much, and it took some serious convincing to let us take another shipment to share with you all. This is bound to fly, and we’re not sure when we’ll have access to a re-stock, so make your moves accordingly!
